As the Public Space Compliance Specialist (PSCS), you will serve a critical role in the safety and security of employees, visitors, and officials on the Capitol Campus. Working closely with the Security and Visitor operations staff as well as law enforcement and community services, you will provide professional and compassionate interactions with members of the public and employees while they are utilizing the Capitol Campus. You will serve as the point of contact for individuals that may be experiencing a crisis while on Capitol Grounds. You will also serve as the primary point of contact when approaching individuals experiencing homelessness and occupying the public spaces on the campus and will work collaboratively with Thurston County and City of Olympia partners to find resources for individuals while maintaining safe and healthy public spaces.
We are seeking a compassionate individual that possesses the ability to work with marginalized communities and unhoused people that may have mental health or substance abuse issues. Our ideal candidate will possess demonstrated skills in crisis de-escalation, mental health first aid, suicide prevention and safety assessments. Communication skills to engage effectively with individuals of varied backgrounds, trauma experiences, cultures, education level and socio-economic status are required. You will also need to be able to develop and maintain relationships with partners such as law enforcement, security partners, Buildings and Grounds staff, and the City of Olympia.
