Federal appeals court ruling threatens enforcement of the Voting Rights Act
-POLITICO
This is urgent, John.
Yesterday, a federal appeals court ruled that private citizens or civil rights groups aren’t allowed to sue under a key section of the Voting Rights Act.
Quick Explainer: Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act prohibits laws and maps that discriminate against voters based on race. This new ruling would stop enforcement of the Voting Rights Act.
FIGHT BACK ([link removed])
John, this is an outright assault on equal voting rights and will undoubtedly disenfranchise Black and Brown communities.
In North Carolina, Republicans have already approved an egregious partisan map, and with this new ruling, they won’t be deterred from continuing their assault on democracy.
Valerie is busy working to protect our voting rights in Congress. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would strengthen the Voting Rights Act and legal protections against discriminatory voting legislation. She needs your help now more than ever.
Can Valerie count on your support with a $10 contribution today? We need to raise $1,000 today to ensure Valerie has the resources she needs to fight back.
