"I want to make clear here that we will not stop fighting to defend our home. As a spokesperson for my territory, I am one of the many women, children, midwives, youths, healers, and chiefs who dedicate their lives to protecting the environment that is part of us and lives within us."
– Alessandra Korap Munduruku
2023 Goldman Environmental Prize winner

From the Amazon to global decision-making spaces, Indigenous women are leaders in protecting ancestral territories in the rainforest, and all of the life they support. One of the major threats they face is mining, which brings ecological devastation and rights abuses to Indigenous communities, and has caused more than 10 percent of the Amazon biome’s loss.

Indigenous women are on the front lines resisting mining and building a pan-Amazon movement to protect their territories for good. They face intense threats and violence for their advocacy, making global solidarity that much more important. In this spirit, generous donors are matching all gifts up to $100,000 through #GivingTuesdaywill you make a special donation today and get doubled?

DOUBLE MY DONATION IN SOLIDARITY WITH INDIGENOUS WOMEN DEFENDERS!

Your gift advances Indigenous peoples' rights to steward and protect their ancestral territories in the Amazon.

Alessandra Korap Munduruku was a leader in her community’s successful resistance to British mining company Anglo American, which led to them withdrawing 27 mining permits overlapping Indigenous territories. Amazon Watch accompanied the Munduruku’s resistance and works closely with Alessandra and her community of Sawré Muybu to secure permanent rights to their territory.

Thanks to supporters like you, Amazon Watch campaigns to end mining in the Amazon and secure Indigenous land rights. We mobilize solidarity funds to Indigenous women to support their safety, well-being, leadership, organizing, and visions for their territories.

This is a collective movement. We all have a role to play. Today, we invite you to make a special donation – which will be matched – in solidarity with Indigenous women defenders of the Amazon!

For the Amazon and Mother Earth,

Leila Salazar-López
Executive Director
