Join the national march for Palestine this Saturday, 25 November ? Thank you to everyone who took part in local actions to build support for a ceasefire last weekend. ? More than 100 events took place across Britain, sending a clear message that voices for peace will not be silenced. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is becoming increasingly dire and the international community, including the UK government, must do more urgently to end this catastrophic conflict. That's why we're calling on our supporters to join us once again in London for another national demonstration to demand an urgent ceasefire.

CND challenges construction works at RAF Lakenheath ? Leigh Day solicitors, acting on behalf of CND, wrote to West Suffolk Council and the Ministry of Defence earlier this month about new construction at RAF Lakenheath. We're challenging the planning rights used for the construction of a new dormitory at RAF Lakenheath. The base authorities hoped this could be carried out without the need for an environmental impact assessment. But as the 144-bed building will house US Air Force personnel specifically deployed to the base for nuclear weapons purposes, it's clear this building enables nukes!? ? The letters have gained significant media coverage. You can watch CND General Secretary Kate Hudson and Ricardo Gama from Leigh Day speaking to the BBC here. Since the coverage, the MoD said an EIA will be carried out at the site.? |

British nuclear-armed sub narrowly avoids disaster ? CND is very concerned to hear the news that one of Britain's nuclear-armed submarines came incredibly close to disaster as it was going out on patrol. The Sun reports that a faulty depth gauge resulted in the vessel diving close to crush depth. It was only rectified after Royal Navy engineers spotted the correct depth on another working gauge and raised the alarm. ? The incident is the latest in a series of safety issues to befall the Vanguard fleet. You can read the full story and our comment on the CND website.?? |
