Friend,
My name is Dwight Lin. I'm 11 years old and I'm a student at Horace Mann School in New York City. Over the past several months, I've had the opportunity to get to know and learn from the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights about the work they're doing to support immigrant children and youth currently in government custody, many of whom are my age.
I was shocked to learn that these children are not guaranteed access to lawyers when they're navigating such a complex immigration system. Many are alone and they all have hopes and dreams for their futures, just like me. In another world, they may have been my classmates.
That's why I am using the money I've saved up to donate $2,000 to the Young Center this Giving Tuesday because I want to support kids who are facing extreme challenges simply because of their immigration status. I encourage you to do the same and donate!
It's clear that our immigration system fails children and young people every day.
But I hope those in custody know that we see you, hear you, and we support you.
