More than 7% of all American adults in the United States identify as LGBTQ+ — including 17% of adults younger than 30. Still, only 2.4% of lifetime federal judgeships are held by openly LGBTQ+ people.

Donald Trump appointed dozens of anti-LGBTQ+ judges. Hundreds of anti-gay bills were introduced into state legislatures in 2023 — everything from censoring books and drag shows to bans on medically necessary health care for transgender people.
