Philadelphia Moms for Liberty chapter organizer is registered sex offender
The radical right-wing organization that has seized headlines in recent years by spreading anti-vax paranoia and vehemently opposing any discussion of race or sexuality in schools was dealt a bruising PR blow with the revelation that a faith-based outreach leader in the group's Philadelphia chapter has a felony conviction for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy. Pitch-perfect projection brought to you once again by the Grand Old Party of FaMiLy VaLuEs™.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Top Obama aide weighs in on Trump’s election chances if he's convicted
Former Obama speechwriter and Pod Save America host Jon Favreau weighed in on Trump's chances of retaking the White House should the disgraced ex-president's worst nightmare comes to pass — and the forecast does not look good for Republicans.

Anti-democracy extremists exposed plotting to overturn the will of 2024 voters
Brennan Center for Justice: A new lawsuit in Michigan aims to overturn two major voting rights measures overwhelmingly approved by voters — and to stop voters from ever passing new voting rights laws again. The Brennan Center for Justice is spearheading the fight against this undemocratic power grab and the many similar plots being rammed through state legislatures across the country. Will you chip in to support their efforts and make sure that we have free and fair elections in 2024?
Secretive White House surveillance program gives cops access to trillions of US phone records
A surveillance program innocuously known as Data Analytical Services (DAS) has for more than a decade allowed federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to mine the details of Americans’ calls, analyzing the phone records of countless people who are not suspected of any crime, including victims. Using a technique known as chain analysis, the program targets not only those in direct phone contact with a criminal suspect but anyone with whom those individuals have been in contact as well. Nothing alarming or Orwellian to worry about here, folks. Please keep scrolling and swiping and...hey!...OMG, have you SEEN those crazy Black Friday sales?! Like, for real! Crazy, right?!

Judges skeptical of Trump's gag order argument but may loosen restrictions anyway
The three-judge panel of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals appears inclined to restore the limited gag order in Trump’s federal election subversion case, but may loosen some restrictions — which would in turn allow the serially indicted grifter to resume lobbing deranged conspiracy theorist attacks at special counsel Jack Smith. None of the judges, it should be noted, embraced Trump’s patently absurd claims that the gag order should be wiped away for good because it is a “categorically unprecedented” violation of his free speech rights.
Take Action: Tell the FCC to restore the net neutrality protections that Trump ended!
US says Israel hostage deal "closer than ever"
President Biden and senior US officials expressed optimism that an agreement to pause fighting and release some of the Israeli hostages taken by Hamas last month is imminent. An estimated 240 people were kidnapped in the October 7 terror attacks, during which 1,200 Israelis were killed. Since then, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza has reported 13,000 people in Gaza have been killed in Israel's retaliatory campaign. Hints that a deal to secure the release of hostages and allow more humanitarian aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave have been increasing in recent days and literally cannot come soon enough.

Supreme Court declines appeal from convicted murderer Derek Chauvin
In a rare stroke of just judicial restraint, the MAGA-packed Supreme Court refused to reconsider the conviction of the ex-Minneapolis police officer who slowly and methodically choked the life out of George Floyd in May of 2020, sparking a national wave of racial reckoning protests. Lawyers for Chauvin had asked the high court in October to take up his long-shot legal battle, unsuccessfully arguing that the decision to keep the proceedings in Minneapolis deprived him of his right to a fair trial because of pretrial publicity and the threat of violence and riots in the event he was acquitted. Deprivation of rights, eh? Interesting argument, Derek.

Biden pardons National Thanksgiving Turkeys while marking his 81st birthday with jokes about his age
On his 81st birthday, Biden made light of the critics who claim he is too old to do his job, joking that "it’s difficult turning 60." He also noted that the presentation of a National Thanksgiving Turkey to the White House has been a tradition for more than seven decades. "This is the 76th anniversary of this event, and I want you to know I wasn’t there at the first one," Biden quipped. Conversations about age and mental acuity are entirely legitimate when it comes to the presidency, and when compared to the bumbling and bizarre behavior Trump has been exhibiting during recent pep rallies, President Biden seems to be doing just fine, thank you very much.
Earth is hurtling toward nearly 5.4°F of warming
New data indicates the planet — our only planet — is headed for nearly 5.4°F of warming through 2100 compared with pre-industrial levels, even if current policies to cut emissions are met. The United Nations' 2023 "Emissions Gap Report" details the sobering distance between pledged emissions cuts made by countries thus far and the reductions actually needed to be on course to meet Paris Climate Accords targets. While this existential crisis should transcend politics, it must be repeatedly noted that, should Republicans reclaim the presidency in 2024, the problem will drastically worsen.
Kyle Rittenhouse to publish book about shooting that made him a right-wing celebrity
Oh, good. Hot takes from Kyle. Just what no one wanted.
American Airlines flight attendants ask for permission to strike. Southwest pilots could be next
The Great American Labor Wave rises higher! American Airlines flight attendants are asking federal officials for the right to go on strike, possibly before the end of the Christmas and New Year's travel rush, while airline officials said there was “no possibility” of a walkout over the holidays. Leaders of the flight attendants' union say they are frustrated with the lack of progress in negotiations over a new contract for workers who have not seen raises since 2019. Solidarity forever!
