** What's on Poynter's grateful list this year? Journalism, of course — and you.
------------------------------------------------------------

During this week of giving thanks, here's a quick peek inside Poynter's gratitude journal.
We are grateful for the warmth, mindfulness and contributions of CNN's Anderson Cooper, who joined us in Tampa on Saturday ([link removed]) to receive the Poynter Medal for Lifetime Achievement at our annual Bowtie Ball fundraising gala.
More than a dozen of us have very specific thankful thoughts about journalism's people, products and ideas ([link removed]) , which we shared Monday in the Poynter Report.
And we're thankful to each of you for reading and championing Poynter all year long. We're sending extra thanks to those of you working this long holiday weekend, whether you're called in for breaking news or covering someone else's shift so they can spend more time with family.
You have our gratitude and appreciation.

How Any Journalist Can Earn Trust
Self-directed course, start any time
We have to stop assuming people understand the mission, ethics and processes behind our work in journalism. We can’t let ourselves get lumped in with perceptions of “the media.” Instead, we need to actively work to earn trust from our communities by telling them why we’re worthy of their time, trust and support.
This online, self-directed course, developed in partnership with our friends at Trusting News, ([link removed]) will help you understand mistrust and gain a better understanding of what trust in news looks like around the world. Examples and activities are designed for non-U.S. news media and fact-checking organizations, in collaboration with Poynter’s International Fact-Checking Network. If you are based in the U.S., check out this version ([link removed]) instead.
Cost: Free.
