Pheasants to be released for holiday hunting

From time with family, to great food and generous servings of pumpkin pie, Thanksgiving offers plenty to be thankful for. Here's one more thing to add to your list: the chance to go pheasant hunting with friends and family.

We will be releasing?rooster pheasants at 18 wildlife management areas before the Thanksgiving weekend, so you and your family can enjoy the fun of hunting together, with added chance of success.

The 18 wildlife management areas are: Arnold Trupp WMA (Morrill County), Arrowhead WMA (Gage County), Bordeaux WMA (Dawes County), Branched Oak WMA (Lancaster County), Cornhusker (Hall County), George D. Syas WMA (Nance County), Hickory Ridge WMA (Johnson County), James N. Douglas WMA (Johnson County), Kirkpatrick Basin North WMA (York County), Oak Valley WMA (Madison County), Peru Bottoms WMA (Nemaha County), Powder Creek WMA (Dixon County), Pressey WMA (Custer County), Rakes Creek WMA (Cass County), Randall W. Schilling WMA (Cass County), Sherman Reservoir WMA (Sherman County), Wilkinson WMA (Platte County), and Yankee Hill WMA (Lancaster County).

You can find a map of these sites on our website (scroll down to the "Pheasant Release Locations" tab). Remember that non-toxic shot is required at Kirkpatrick Basin North, Peru Bottoms, Randall W. Schilling and Wilkinson wildlife management areas.

Upland Slam offers a unique challenge

During your Thanksgiving pheasant hunt, how about starting ? or continuing to work on ? the Nebraska Upland Slam?

To complete the Slam, you'll need to harvest four birds in Nebraska:?a sharp-tailed grouse, greater prairie-chicken, ring-necked pheasant and northern bobwhite quail.?Each hunter who completes the slam will receive an official certificate and pin, and be entered into a drawing to win a grand prize.
