Most people experience ableism without realizing it. From movement work to collaborative spaces, people sacrifice ability in order to get to what they consider to be the greater good. But the greater good should not come with the sacrifice of an entire group of people. |
The Disability Project wants participation from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color-identified disabled and Deaf trans people in the Disabled & Deaf Trans People’s Survey (DTPS). If you are part of this diverse spectrum, I hope you will take time to participate in the survey. |
The survey is a chance for you to share how you show up in spaces or how you engage with ableist systems, whether or not you outwardly talk about having disabilities. Unlike most surveys, this one is designed for disabled, ill, Mad, and Deaf trans people to record complex perspectives and our multilayered needs. |
That’s why they designed the DTPS with incredible care, forethought, and multiple access points. You can take the survey in English, Spanish or ASL with closed captions. You can listen to each question by pressing play on the audio box underneath the question. There are open ended questions throughout the survey. For these, you can type your answers or upload an audio file. |
Often, disabled people get sacrificed for the sake of data. And there are a lot of people who are hesitant to label themselves as disabled. The more people who engage with this survey, the harder it will be for classist, white supremacist systems to say we don’t exist. |
Please also share this email with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color-identified disabled and Deaf trans people and encourage them to take the survey! We need as much help as we can get increasing BIPOC participation in this first of a kind survey. |
