John, we recently introduced you to a child named Ruby*, who was rescued from online sexual exploitation of children in the Philippines thanks to the support of people like you.
The online trafficking of children has become one of the fastest-growing forms of human trafficking in our digital age.** Ruby was tricked by a false recruiter who promised her a good job, free travel and a better future in a city in the Philippines, far from her rural home.
When Ruby arrived in the big city, she was locked in a house with other girls, all forced to be abused in front of a web camera for paying customers around the world. After time, Ruby lost all hope of escape. But thanks to friends like you, IJM played a pivotal role in the investigation of Ruby’s case and the rescue operation which finally freed her.
“I still think about the day of the rescue,” remembers Kath, an IJM worker who was there at the time. “One image will always stay with me. The face of a thin, long-haired girl with both fear and courage in her eyes. The face of Ruby.”
Today, after rescue, Ruby has become a strong survivor leader using her voice for other victims as part of the Global Survivor Network. But other children are still trapped. Helping to free them from this abuse and restore their lives is one of the greatest gifts you can give this holiday season — and there couldn't be a better time to act.
