During a Thanksgiving celebration at a naval base in Norfolk, Virginia, on Sunday, President Joe Biden shared a heartwarming moment with a six-year-old girl named Catherine. Enthralled by her Mickey Mouse headwear, Biden complimented her ears, expressing, "I love your ears" and noting they were "really cool." The President bent down and engaged with Catherine during the 'Friendsgiving' event leading up to the holiday.
In the course of their interaction, Biden initially speculated Catherine's age at 17, to which she corrected him, affirming she is six years old.
This isn't the first instance of Biden expressing admiration for children. During a 2021 speech to military personnel in Hampton, Virginia, he complimented a family being honored, particularly noting, "I love those barrettes in your hair… She looks like she's 19 years old." The President continued to express admiration for the family's appearance and acknowledged the wife, Brittney, who is on "triple duty" as a veteran, military spouse, and teacher. Biden's interactions reflect his appreciation for and acknowledgment of individuals in various roles within military families.
