I lost both of my legs and one of my fingers 13 years ago. An improvised explosive device planted by the Taliban went off beneath my feet while serving our country in Afghanistan. Let me tell you why I’m still thankful…
I won’t sit here and lie to you. I was in rough shape while I was in Walter Reed, not only physically but mentally. I didn’t think I had it in me to continue serving my country. After all, I wouldn’t be much use on the battlefield anymore.
One day after a conversation with my father, I stopped feeling sorry for myself and knew I wasn’t done yet. I realized that I lived in the greatest country on earth, and that meant I could wake up and decide that today would be better than yesterday.
So, I got my ass up, learned to walk again, graduated from Harvard, and ran for U.S. Congress. I’ve beaten all the odds, and I’m not done yet. You see, I might be down some limbs but I’m still thankful.
I’m thankful to be alive. I’m thankful for my fellow soldiers who rushed towards the explosion instead of away from it to save my life. I’m thankful for all veterans who make sacrifices each and every day. I’m thankful for my wife, Brianna, and the rest of my family who stuck by my side. I’m thankful for all of you and for the America First movement!
We’ve got the fight of our lives coming up quickly, and I need you all to show up one more time! Let’s show the Left that Republicans are ready to WIN:
