John,
On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor the memory of the countless trans folks whose lives have been lost due to anti-trans violence. Our Black LGBTQ+ fam continues to face discrimination and inequality every day at the intersection of identities -- especially in the political sphere.
Recruiting, supporting, and voting for Black LGBTQ+ candidates to public office is crucial to the fight for Black liberation -- because all Black Lives Matter. And we deserve elected officials that represent all of us -- and our collective fight toward equality and ending discrimination on all fronts.
It's rare to see these intersections in our elected officials, and that's exactly why BLM PAC is committing to ensure that our pool of candidates empowers and upholds the beauty of intersectionality.
Can you chip in $5 or whatever you can toward BLM PAC so we can continue to back candidates dedicated to empowering ALL Black lives and representing intersectionality?
The Human Rights Campaign has been tracking violence against transgender and gender non-conforming people – and while they have an idea of the minimum number, it's important to note that countless of these incidents go unreported.
2022 saw at least 41 transgender and non-conforming people fatally shot or killed by other forms of violence – and every year, it's only getting worse. Plus, the majority of these people have been Black and Latinx transgender women.
These numbers are only going to keep climbing if we don't have the right people running for office and winning in order to legislate for all Black people – including our trans family. If we want legislative bodies that are truly representative of all Black people, we have to do all we can to pool our resources into backing candidates who represent the diversity within our community.
So what do you say? Will you make a donation to BLM PAC and help fuel the work to support and elect Black LGBTQ+ candidates?
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter PAC
