*content warning: this email includes discussion of domestic abuse and gun violence*
John, the topic of America’s gun violence epidemic is not a pleasant one - but it is a topic that needs our urgent attention.
Statistics show that during the holiday season, family violence increases. Statistics also show that people who commit mass shootings often have a prior record of domestic abuse.
During my time on the Mass Violence Prevention Committee, I stood with families in Odessa and El Paso after they faced the unfathomable and all too common tragedy of a mass shooting. I heard stories from law enforcement about how domestic abusers become community shooters, and how we aren’t doing enough to stop the violence when it first begins.
John, as a legislator I’ve worked to find commonsense solutions to the gun violence epidemic plaguing our country, as well as solutions to the underlying epidemic of family violence. I wrote legislation intended to keep guns out of the hands of people who commit domestic violence. When elected to Congress, I’ll bring this same fight to D.C.
John, if you believe like I do that it’s long past time to take action on gun violence, will you add your name?
