Dear friend,
Climate-driven weather events, natural disasters, and violent conflicts
worldwide have led to supply chain disruptions and skyrocketing energy and
food prices that have left roughly 783 million people hungry.
The massive global challenges we’re
facing today require a remarkable response from every one of us who cares
about what happens to people enduring extreme hardship around the globe.
As the global food crisis worsens around the world, there is no time to
waste, so I’m asking you to make your #GivingTuesday early this year.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of charitable giving and one of our most
critical fundraising moments.

Mario Murad, a husband and father of three daughters, began baking for his
family to produce healthier, higher-quality bread and save money. Within a
year, he opened his own bakery and, when he needed help expanding his
business, he turned to Mercy Corps.
Lebanon has faced economic collapse for over three years, leaving nearly
80% of people below the poverty line and struggling with hunger.
Unfortunately, food security worsened after Ukraine’s war cut off nearly
80% of Lebanon’s wheat supply.
To combat this issue, Mercy Corps partners with communities to promote
sustainable and local food growth, reduce reliance on broken food systems,
and improve access to healthy food.
We’ve supported small businesses like NatBio, an organic bakery started by
Mario Murad in Lebanon. With Mercy Corps’ help, Mario has been able to
expand his business by investing in machinery to automate production and
develop relationships with local, organic farmers, ensuring a stable
supply of high-quality wheat flour.

"Growing our own food in Lebanon is essential for food security, boosting
the economy, creating job opportunities, reducing unemployment, and
bringing various other benefits to the country," Mario says.
[ [link removed] ]Your #GivingTuesday gift can make a powerful impact on families in
places like Lebanon and sustain Mercy Corps’ humanitarian work in
countries around the globe through whatever challenges lie ahead in 2024.
