This is not an endorsement they give lightly. I’m one of just four candidates for Congress they’ve endorsed this year anywhere in America.
It’s also not an endorsement I take lightly. This endorsement is personal to me. I grew up in a neighborhood and apartment building where gun violence was a reality. And I’ll never forget the morning in 2011 when I was driving down to meet with Representative Gabby Giffords and got a call from Stephanie, who was already there in Tucson with our then-two-year-old and two-month-old kids telling me that a helicopter had just landed in the middle of the street.
That’s why I’ve not only been an unwavering advocate for stronger gun safety laws, but I’ve worked to do something about it. As the leader of Arizona Democrats, I took on Jan Brewer’s “guns in bars” and “guns at work” bills. I joined with CEOs For Gun Safety to lobby Congress to take action. And I helped millions of people get access to bank accounts that defunded gun manufacturers and the NRA.
David Schweikert has a record on guns, too. But it is very different. Throughout his career, he has not only opposed common sense gun safety legislation but worked to weaken and oppose the enforcement of the laws we have on the books. That’s why I need your help to replace him.
