Dear John,

As Thanksgiving approaches, most of us are thinking about what we’re thankful for. I’m especially grateful for your continued prayers as we enter the holiday season. As a mother, I’m grateful for every memory I get to make with my family—like making mashed potatoes with my young daughters for our church’s Friendsgiving for homeless men and women in our city. I also think about those in prison who don’t get to be with their loved ones during the holidays. It can be such a lonely time, even for those who are

fortunate enough to receive prison visits.

During this season, incarcerated men and women are missing their families and desperately searching for the hope that Jesus brings. I don’t know about you, but I would have a hard time

being thankful while spending Thanksgiving behind bars . But one thing that amazes me about so many of the men and women we serve is that, because of Jesus, their gratitude is not contingent upon circumstances. They have an inspiring sense of joy and freedom.

That genuine joy is a part of Christina’s life now, thanks to people like you who help make Prison Fellowship programs possible. Christina is a remarkable woman I’ve gotten to visit several times at the

Prison Fellowship Academy at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center in Oklahoma. She recently shared why the Academy is high on her list of things to be thankful for.
“‘Thank you’ doesn’t feel like enough to the people who have changed my life in ways that I’ve never thought possible. I’ve gotten healing from past trauma. I’ve learned my worth and have grown boundaries, coping skills, and learned how to be social. I don’t feel alone anymore and have found peace. I believe that this program and the people responsible for making it are the angels changing the world. I pray for you to be blessed the way you have blessed me.” —Christina
Christina’s courageous vulnerability, perseverance, and transformation has been an inspiration to me. You can be a blessing to someone like Christina by

celebrating GivingTuesday with us ! Together, we can help people in prison experience the love of Christ and discover new purpose.

Every incarcerated man and woman was created by God and is precious in His sight. When I visit prison, I see so many authentic examples of redemption and of what the Church can be. I am grateful for their witness and for the chance to experience the transforming power of Christ alongside them.
