Arlington Chamber Announces 2024 Public Policy Positions

On November 17, the Arlington Chamber of Commerce adopted its 2024 Policy Positions. The policy positions comprise two documents: one containing legislative priorities for the Virginia General Assembly’s 2024 session, and one focused on local issues within the purview of Arlington County’s government. The Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee produced the first draft of the Policy Positions, with staff assistance, at their annual work session. Following completion of the draft, the Policy Positions were reviewed by the Executive Committee and recommended to the Board.

In these documents, the Chamber advocates for Arlington and Virginia to build strong partnerships between government and the business community, continue to prioritize economic development by supporting businesses of all sizes, tackle the challenge of high commercial vacancy, support businesses struggling with rising inflation and costs of living, expand efforts to increase the supply of housing, and sustain a robust public infrastructure.

For more information on the Policy Positions, please contact Government Affairs Manager, John Musso at [email protected].

Arlington County Seeks Input for Solid Waste Plan

Arlington County announced a public comment period for its Solid Waste Management and Zero Waste Plan. This is a state mandated 20-year plan for the County’s solid waste management framework. The chief goal of the Plan is to divert at least 90% of waste from landfill or incineration by 2038.

The core components of the Solid Waste Plan include strong incentives for comprehensive management of organic waste, along with more robust recycling programs. This Plan was the product of County Staff and a Working Group of Stakeholders, including the Arlington Chamber. Comments and feedback may be submitted by Friday, December 1. The County Board is expected to consider this Plan sometime in 2024. Learn more here.
