The past two weeks have been turbulent in Washington. Most notably, Congress passed yet another continuing resolution to fund the government. I believe a government shutdown benefits no one and is to the detriment of our nation. However, extending the Biden-Pelosi spending levels and policies is not the right path to go down. We must fundamentally change the way Washington works instead of governing by CR. Doing so kicks the can down the road and only exacerbates the challenges we’re facing as a nation.
I am eager to do whatever it takes to show the American people that House Republicans can govern effectively, reduce the unsustainable growth of our national debt, and secure our southern border.
Americans continue to face the crippling consequences of reckless spending both Republican and Democrats own. With debt levels soaring and the interest on the debt soaring past our expenditures on our military, we are reaching a breaking point. Our children and grandchildren will suffer from Washington’s inability to rein in its addiction to spending. Similarly, inflation will continue to persist so long as we continue to rack up more debt. There is no doubt hardworking Americans are feeling the impact as we approach Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Ways and Means Hearing: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing
On October 7th, the world witnessed an unprovoked and brutal attack against Israel. Hamas is a terrorist group with intentions to erase the existence of Jewish people. I fully support Israel’s right to exist and defend itself.
The Committee on Ways and Means held a hearing to discuss a noticeable spike in antisemitism throughout the country and especially prevalent on elite college campuses. A student from Cornell gave heartbreaking testimony expressing her fear of being attacked based on her faith. She reminded us she was supposed to be in class, but instead she is in Washington advocating to protect the Jewish community’s safety to attend class.
While Israel is battling the war against Hamas, the Jewish people are battling acts of violence and extreme antisemitism right here in the United States. It is crucial we stand in solidarity with our ally and investigate these fraudulent charities funding the mission of a terrorist organization.
Meeting with Thailand's Ambassador to the United States
I had the pleasure of meeting with Tanee Sangrat, the Thailand’s Ambassador to the United States. As a member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, it is my constitutional duty to cultivate positive relationships with foreign countries. During our conversation, I expressed to Ambassador Sangrat the significance of free trade with his country for our large pork producers here in NC-03. I look forward to developing and strengthening our nations’ relationship with Ambassador Sangrat.
Letter to Treasury Secretary Yellen on Charitable Organizations Funding Hamas
I wrote Secretary Yellen a letter regarding tax-exempt charities manipulating innocent Americans into donating their hard-earned money to finance Hamas. Americans are more vulnerable to social manipulation than ever before, especially on platforms like Tik Tok.
It is essential the Treasury Department is investigating these organizations and has a plan protect those who give out of the goodness of their hearts.

National Epilepsy Awareness Month
I was honored to speak at the Epilepsy Caucus Briefing to commend the advancements in medicine and encourage leaders their research is making a difference in the field of medicine. Epilepsy is a very personal disease and there are many patients that struggle to find a drug that works for them. I understand the difficulties individuals suffering from epilepsy experience and am so thankful for the research that continues to bring forth new treatments. We must continue to support efforts to develop drugs and treatments to give patients the opportunity to live fruitful lives.
Conservatives Need a Bold Vision on Sustainable Energy, Not Scapegoats
Climate change has become a major global political issue and a motivating factor for young voters. Conservatives need a bold vision on a sustainable future. One that protects beautiful ecosystems and our way of life. In Eastern North Carolina, we intimately understand the importance of adaptation to sea level change and weather resiliency.
Climate extremism and unattainable fantasies move us farther away from our goals. We need pragmatic solutions, like the expansion of cutting-edge nuclear technology, to preserve our future in the most cost-effective way possible.
