Earlier this month, voters showed up across the country to make their voices heard in support of democracy.

→ In Virginia, voters rejected GOP Governor Glenn Youngkin’s right-wing culture war message and delivered Democrats control of both the State Senate and House of Delegates.

→ In Kentucky, voters in a deep-red state voted to reelect Democratic Governor Andy Beshear, who has been a champion for voting rights and abortion rights.

→ And in Ohio, despite shameless attempts by Republican lawmakers to undermine the democratic process, voters chose to enshrine protection for abortion rights in the state constitution.

Over and over again, Republicans have shown their disdain for democracy and their willingness to subvert it to hold on to power. And over and over again, voters have shown that they’re not dumb, and they know what they care about, by showing up to vote for Democracy Defenders.

We’re less than a year out from a truly consequential election in 2024, so we must keep fighting across the country to ensure voters can make their voices heard. Will you rush a donation now to power the NDR PAC’s democracy-saving work?

Unfortunately, the news from this year’s elections wasn’t all good. In Mississippi, advocates worked tirelessly to activate Black communities to make their voices heard in the governor’s race. But on Election Day, voters encountered hours-long waits – and many polling places even ran out of ballots.

We must be prepared to combat these kinds of threats to voter access all across the country next year. Voters have made it clear that they have the power to enact real change. But we must ensure fairness in our elections so voters can make their voices heard.

As Attorney General Eric Holder said recently, “Voting rights protect all other rights. But those rights are under attack—and our democracy is under attack. It’s up to us to do the work . . . We have to make real America’s promise of inclusion in our democracy.”
