The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has deteriorated to a catastrophic point.
Among the 11,078 fatalities in Gaza, it’s estimated that 68% are women and children. Take a look for yourself at these devastating statistics across Gaza and the West Bank:
Worsening sanitary conditions, along with the lack of privacy and space, generate health and safety hazards particularly for the most vulnerable including adolescent girls, pregnant and postpartum women, disabled women, and female headed households.
“I was under the rubble... I couldn’t move... I was nine months pregnant. I had ten days left to give birth. They scanned the fetus; they found the pulse was weak and they had to do an emergency C-section,” a woman named Islam told UNFPA. “I named my son Sanad — it means support — because my son who was killed wanted to call him Sanad,”
Fueled by your emergency gifts, UNFPA is working to provide:
- Dignity Kits to the more than 690,000 menstruating women and girls who have limited access to menstrual hygiene products
- Obstetric care to the 5,500 pregnant women who will give birth in the next 30 days
- Direct aid to survivors of violence and other vulnerable women and girls to manage their most essential needs
But as aid trickles into Gaza, more humanitarian aid is urgently needed — which is why UNFPA is appealing for $14 million as part of our Gaza Flash Appeal.
Private donors like you have stepped up to make a significant dent toward our Flash Appeal goal. Will you step up today for innocent women and children by making an emergency gift of your own today?
UNFPA condemns the violence in Israel and Gaza and echoes the UN Secretary-General’s call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, for the immediate and unconditional release of hostages by Hamas, and for the delivery of sustained humanitarian relief at scale that meets the needs of the people of Gaza.
Thank you for being a part of our mission.
