Let's talk about debt for a moment.

Debt collectors often use misleading or incomplete information to try to convince consumers that they must pay debts that are not legally due -- or may not even be theirs. When I began my career at Legal Aid, I saw how these harmful tactics hurt families and our communities.

Consumers often lack the information they need to defend themselves from predatory debt collectors, leaving them vulnerable to aggressive and financially devastating lawsuits. In 2019, nearly 500,000 people filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission about debt collection fraud.

This needs to end.

I introduced legislation to put power back into the hands of individuals and give them the information they need to protect themselves. With the right tools, we can get American families back on track.

More soon,

Suzanne
