[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

Friends

See this? It's one of my first tweets on Twitter about some students in New Milford giving me a pedometer to track my steps.

'New Milford 5th graders gave me a pedometer -- challenged me to = their May goal of walking 5k steps a day!'

Suffice to say, I could have never imagined a decade-plus later I'd be a United States Senator live-tweeting my annual "Walk Across Connecticut" -- sometimes taking more than 30,000 steps in a day.

But I want to tell you something about those walks -- and about my re-election.

When I take those walks, so many people seek me out because they are passionate about something — from voting rights to education to strengthening retirement security for our seniors. People have things they care about, and they still believe that democracy is the answer.

Obviously, so do I.

All of that is at stake in this election.

I take these walks - 20 miles a day from one end of the state to the other - as a way to show the people of Connecticut how grateful I am to have this job. I'm so lucky to be able to represent my state in the U.S. Senate, and I want to show people that I'm willing to do extraordinary things in order to make sure I'm representing the views of my constituents accurately.

But it's important to say -- none of it would be possible without the support of people like you.

Your response to emails like this allows me to focus my time on the things you expect of a Senator. I don't have to spend all-day on the phone begging donors for money.

Emails like this are how we get most of our donations.

I want to keep my job in the Senate. I am fighting hard to win re-election. But I need your help once again, to get it done:

Can I count on you to use this link to contribute $5, $10 or whatever you can afford to my re-election campaign today? I am hoping for lots and lots of donations before fundraising slows down over Thanksgiving.

Chris Murphy
