1. A taste of tradition in Lithuania ([link removed])

More than 100,000 Lithuanians currently benefit from simple business licenses that make starting a small business easier. Ona Raudeliūnienė adds to her wages as a librarian by baking traditional cakes that are enjoyed on special occasions—but the simple license she uses is under threat. Certain occupations, including childcare and auto repair, have already been eliminated from license eligibility. 2. Eliminating bureaucratic barriers in Peru ([link removed])
Entrepreneurs and small business owners in Peru now have an easier time overcoming obstacles to success as a result of a new monitoring system that tracks bureaucratic barriers. ([link removed]) Asociación de Contribuyentes del Perú’s Bureaucratic Barriers Observatory provides a database to Peruvians of official limitations that impede market processes. The database has already led to the removal of additional restrictions on the free movement of goods and services.
3. Bringing “Economics in 31 Hours” to Ukrainian schools ([link removed])

Nataliya Melnyk of the Bendukidze Free Market Center won last year’s Europe Think Tank Shark Tank competition to create a middle school economics curriculum built around a translation of Lithuanian Free Market Institute’s wildly popular Economics in 31 Hours textbook. The new book, called Economics ([link removed]) , has been incorporated into the curricula of 15 Ukrainian schools across 9 different regions and has reached more than 500 middle schoolers.

Over the last year, Fundación Ecuador Libre conducted an Economic Freedom Audit in conjunction with Fraser Institute and with support from Atlas Network, analyzing the country’s policies and institutions in order to diagnose the root causes that limit economic freedom. A new tax law ([link removed]) , la Ley de Simplicidad y Progresividad Tributaria, is a direct result of the audit’s initial recommendations, and Ecuador Libre plans to propose additional bills to reform the country’s central bank as well as labor regulations, judicial efficiency, and trade agreements.

Students from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana are better prepared to join the workforce thanks to the efforts of Young Africans for Opportunities, an Atlas Network grantee that is working to advance the principles of a free society in order to enable the creation of opportunities for all in Western Africa. Nearly 300 students attended YAFO’s “Young and Employable” workshop, ([link removed]) which focused on entrepreneurship, networking, and professional development, giving participants the unique opportunity to expand their education beyond the limits of the classroom.

10. Association Multi stops minimum wage increase in Bosnia and Herzegovina ([link removed])
The unintended consequences of raising the minimum wage were at the center of a successful campaign to educate people in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the problems of market intervention. Association Multi, an Atlas Network partner based in Tuzla, successfully pushed back ([link removed]) against a dangerous populist proposal to raise the minimum wage by 150 percent.
