The National Climate Assessment (NCA) is a congressionally mandated report due every five years. This week, the Biden Administration released the fifth ever NCA. Here’s what it showed:
While some are being impacted more than others, every state in the US is seeing the negative consequences of climate change.
Levels of pollution that cause climate change are decreasing, but not nearly fast enough.
The human and financial toll of climate change on our country is massive.
According to the report, “billion-dollar” weather events (weather events causing over a billion dollars worth of damage) used to happen in the US every four months on average, when adjusted for inflation. Now? They happen every three weeks.
According to White House senior climate adviser John Podesta, in order to “create a livable future for ourselves and our children,” our country needs “a transformation of the global economy on a size and scale that’s never occurred in human history.”

Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
