VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Adopt a Military or Veteran Family for the Holidays!

Military kids experience so many uncertainties. Gifts during the holidays shouldnโ€™t be one of them.

Urgent volunteer support needed to adopt families for the holidays and provide gifts for the children and a grocery gift card for the family to put towards their holiday meal!

Over 150 families waiting to be adopted. Could you be the hope that they need this holiday season?

Volunteer Info [[link removed]] FAQ's [[link removed]] Donate [[link removed]] WE CAN TAKE MORE STOCKINGS!!!

You may have caught our exciting announcement earlier this week that we not only met our goal of 40,000 stuffed holiday stocking pledges, we exceeded it! But, what's even more exciting, thanks to our recent transition to a new database system, we can keep collecting stockings!!

Normally, around this time of year, we'd be closing out our stocking pledges and focusing on all of the stockings getting in the mail to our headquarters in San Antonio so we can sort, pack, and reship. But, thanks to all of the system changes and upgrades, we can actually keep collecting till even closer to the holidays!

Why? Because now instead of the stockings coming to San Antonio and then being repackaged and reshipped, those who pledge the stockings can ship directly to the deployed, VAs, and military installations that are requesting the support!!

That's right! When you log into the system, you'll actually be able to search for a location that is nearest you and then make arrangements to ship or even hand deliver the stockings. (Which also means potential savings on expensive shipping for you and Soldiers' Angels!)

There is one small catch... you do have to be a registered Soldiers' Angels volunteer in order to participate. But, registration is easy and will not only allow you to participate in Holiday Stockings for Heroes, but also any number of our other volunteer opportunities-- including, but not limited to: sending care packages to deployed, supporting caregivers with gift boxes, writing letters and cards, baking for deployed, sewing and crafting projects, virtual baby showers, and so, so much more!

It's been a challenging transition, and most reading this might not have even been aware of the behind-the-scenes work. To those who've navigated every obstacle of this extensive build and migration, thank you! While it's slowed our usual support speed, the long-term gains will far surpass these temporary setbacks. For our longstanding volunteers, we acknowledge your reservations, but positive testimonials show the new system is promising!

Angel Carolyn, who has participated in Holiday Stockings this year and past years, had this to say:

"I like the new Soldiersโ€™ Angels holiday stocking process! We filled 200 stockings, which filled 20 boxes. I searched the database for a location a couple hours from my house! Hubby and I took a road trip and delivered them in person (with permission of course). Saved me so much work! Didnโ€™t have to weigh each box, didnโ€™t have to fill out an in kind form for each box, just filled out one form that listed all quantities of all items. Thank you Soldiersโ€™ Angels."

While not all issues are resolved, we're dedicated to streamlining volunteer opportunities for everyone involved. Your ongoing support and patience through this significant change are immensely appreciated!

Dallas Food Distribution Creating an Impact

Our Dallas Military and Veteran Food Distribution is growing quickly and providing critical food assistance to even more Service members and Veterans each month. This month, North Texas Food Bank joined us at the event to share why the event is so important for some local Veterans, like Tinita. Here's an excerpt from their blog:

Feeding America reports that one in nine working-age Veterans live in food-insecure households, and 1.2 million Veterans use SNAP.

Tinita Farley and her 5-year-old son celebrated Veterans Day with a home-cooked meal and a slice of pie thanks to food distributed this month by North Texas Food Bank partner Soldiersโ€™ Angels.

โ€œThis helps tremendously. I can go home and cook dinner tonight,โ€ she says. โ€œI just cooked the last of what I had last night.โ€

A Veteran of the Navy who lives with PTSD following a deployment to Iraq, Tinita receives disability and says between that and the income she makes through side jobs, she simply doesnโ€™t have enough to cover the high price of groceries and other living expenses right now.

With the help of some pretty incredible corporate partners, thousands of Veterans across the country were remembered, honored, and uplifted this Veterans Day.

Employee volunteers from USAA, Bristol Myers Squibb, Lockheed Martin, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, RWE, and Sunstate Equipment were out in full force the entire week of Veterans Day. Working in VA Hospitals across the country, the volunteers organized and hosted a variety of events ranging from patient visits to luncheons to Bingo with the Orlando Magic.

This massive, nationwide effort has an even bigger mission: honor and show gratitude to every generation of Veteran for the sacrifices made in service to our country.
