As Republicans were in crisis this week over another almost government shut down, you may have missed that Donald Trump is ramping up his time spent on the campaign trail - and his rhetoric is ramping up to be more dangerous too. In a Veterans Day stump speech, he referred to his political opponents as “vermin.”

Why it matters: Trump’s comments are eerily reminiscent of rhetoric used by foreign dictators, not an American President. And in that same Veterans Day speech, he praised Hungary’s authoritarian leader.

Between the lines: we’re just a year out from the election and if Trump’s rhetoric is already this unhinged, we can expect him to flood the zone with even more dangerous and divisive messaging.

What Republicans are saying: *radio silence*

The big picture: the GOP is showing no signs of backing down from the MAGA, election-denying agenda. Which is why we’re going to need strong Democratic Secretaries of State who will defend democracy against these attacks.

Will you make a donation of $3 so we can elect Democratic Secretaries of State who will defend our democracy from election-denying Republicans?
