Making Space in Our Lives for the Coming of God
During the season of Advent, the month leading up to Christmas, the church has long invited us to pray for the coming of God. These prayers help us anticipate the celebration of Christ’s coming, but that is not all. The deep wisdom of this season is an invitation to make space in our lives for the birth of God. The Christmas story is unique in that it looks at a particular family deeply embedded in their own time and place, and yet its significance has always had a cosmic horizon.
Hosted by Dr. Tripp Fuller, Dr. Philip Clayton, and Dr. Diana Butler Bass, we will explore the complexity of the Christmas story and the vision of the Cosmic Christ today.

Don't Miss This Groundbreaking Podcast - An Oral History of the Emerging Church Movement!
|
For a decade at the beginning of the twentieth century, a small group of pastors, missionaries, and theologians set out to change the church. They were mostly GenXers, mostly men, mostly white, mostly evangelical. They planted churches and wrote books and ran conferences. They were quoted in the New York Times and Time Magazine, and they landed on the cover of Christianity Today and the Christian Century.
And then, almost as quickly as it appeared, the emerging church movement disappeared.
In this 8-part+ series, Tony Jones and Tripp Fuller will journey through the electrifying, tumultuous, ever-evolving years of the ECM through interviews, stories, and opinions from some of the movement’s pivotal figures. They’ll tackle questions like:
- What were the precursors to the ECM?
- What catalyzed the movement?
- How cohesive was it, really?
- When and why did interest switch from the evangelical church to the mainline?
- Did it become too political?
- Did the movement ultimately fail, or did it infiltrate and change the church?
Confirmed guests already include Brian McLaren, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Doug Pagitt, Mark Oestreicher, Diana Butler Bass, Anthony Smith, Danielle Shroyer, Brad Cecil, Jonny Baker, Jason Clark, Gerardo Marti, and never-before-heard conversations with Rachel Held Evans. Plus, many more!
