John, the person third in line for the presidency is also a key supporter of the plot to gut our Constitutional rights.
Yes, you read that right – Speaker Mike Johnson is a huge supporter of the Article V plot. In fact, one of the key groups behind the plot – Convention of States – even held a letter-writing campaign to thank Mike Johnson for “his unwavering support of the Convention of States Resolution and Article V.”
As I write you, the Article V plot is just six states away from becoming a reality. Now, Mike Johnson could use his position of power to push Article V over the finish line. He already was a vocal proponent of Louisiana's call for a convention, and now he’s got an even bigger platform to influence states across the nation.
John, I cannot overstate the dangers of an Article V Convention. Those behind the plot are hoping to gut the FDA, the CDC, and other regulatory agencies. [1] They could gut our civil rights, right to privacy, and enact even more barriers to vote. Nothing is off the table with Article V.
And it’s not just me sounding the alarms. Experts have called Article V one of the greatest present threats to our democracy.
You might be wondering – what’s the solution? Well John, Common Cause has a proven track record of shutting down Article V bills, and even getting states to rescind bills that are already on the books.
Already this year, we’ve stopped over 100 calls for an Article V Convention. And members like you have been crucial in this success. When we called on you to stop an Article V bill in Montana, you drove calls and sent messages and killed the bill by just one vote.
I know what it takes to stop Article V. But I’m already stretched so thin by the sheer number of states that introduce these bills. It’ll only get worse now that we have a vocal proponent of the Article V plot as Speaker of the House. So I need your help.
Can I count on you to chip in $3 – or whatever you can today – to STOP the Article V plot to gut our Constitutional rights?
John, I’m ready to rise to the challenge. We don’t have any other choice. But I can’t do this without you.
