We're taking notes from our win in Ohio and looking ahead to the next battleground for abortion rights

Indivisibles,

Last week, voters in Ohio made history by enshrining reproductive freedoms in their state constitution. Indivisibles on the ground in Ohio and across the country helped make it happen through tens of thousands of calls, texts, postcards, and countless 1-on-1 conversations through our Neighbor2Neighbor canvassing program.

We’ve seen time and time again, when MAGA politicians try to take away our rights, our bodily autonomy, and our democracy, we fight back and win. Since the MAGA Supreme Court overturned Roe, abortion has been on the ballot in seven states. In each case, the MAGA extremist position lost. Every. Single. Time.

We know the public is on our side, and while we celebrate this latest win, our work isn’t done. As our own Mari Urbina told the New York Times: “We’re taking notes from this win in Ohio. Now we look ahead to Arizona and so many other battlegrounds where voters will be the firewall for our democracy.”

In September, alongside reproductive rights partners, we launched our statewide campaign in Arizona -- perhaps the most important battleground in 2024 -- to gather over half a million signatures and put a reproductive rights measure on the ballot next November.

Since then, we’ve recruited over 1,100 volunteers, trained over 500 volunteer leaders, and set up petition gathering hubs across the state. This progress wouldn’t be possible without the support of our grassroots donors, but we still have a long way to go. That’s why we’re reaching out today and asking you to pitch in and help us keep this momentum going.

One of the key lessons from Ohio is when abortion is on the ballot, turnout soars and we win. Turnout from across the state nearly matched the 2022 midterms! That’s a huge result in an off-year election and it’s exactly what we’re trying to replicate in Arizona, one of the key battlegrounds that will decide control of the White House, Senate, and House.

We know turnout in Arizona will be higher with the abortion rights amendment on the ballot, and the same 1,100+ strong volunteer force we’re mobilizing to collect signatures will create a powerful base for turning out the vote and winning up and down the ballot in 2024.

To make it all happen, we’ve doubled down on our commitment to winning in Arizona. That includes bringing on new staff, helping establish new Indivisible groups, and experimenting with innovative ways to recruit new Indivisibles and build out our network from Apache to Yuma.

We’ve made such a huge investment because we know this fight can help secure abortion rights for Arizonans and the rest of the country. If we can replace Sinema with a real Democrat, flip two of Arizona’s House seats, and keep those electoral votes out of Trump’s hands, that alone will bring us close to being able to codify Roe nationally (and pass many more transformative policies).

We’re counting on our grassroots donors to sustain our momentum and help us continue building out our volunteer force in this crucial state. If you’re able to donate, you can click here to pitch in and support our work in Arizona.

Our victory in Ohio was a testament to the power of grassroots organizing and community engagement. Together, we’ll continue to defeat MAGA and their extremist agenda up and down the ballot.
