John, voting is our most foundational right. Voting gives each and every one of us a voice in our democracy, and Aly and I believe it's a great honor and a responsibility to cast our vote every chance we get, including just a few weeks ago when we voted early in this year's elections.

But unfortunately, there are a lot of folks in Texas and around the country trying to make it harder for Americans to exercise this fundamental right.

Texas has some of the worst, most obvious instances of voter suppression in the entire country, including voter ID laws so strict that women who have taken their husbands' last names are having trouble, outlawing online registration, and severely limiting who can vote by mail.

And it's no secret that Republicans' restrictive voting laws target Black and Brown communities. We should all be infuriated by this, John – I know I am. I became a civil rights attorney and specialized in voting rights because I saw what was happening here in Texas, and I knew folks deserved better. But being a voting rights lawyer in Texas is like being a firefighter in hell – and politicians like Ted Cruz sure aren't helping.

We urgently need to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and protect our right to vote at the federal level to ensure our democracy lives up to its promises. I was proud to vote for this critical legislation in the House in 2021; Ted Cruz voted against it, and that's just one major reason I'm running to defeat him next year. I will always stand up for our rights – from voting to reproductive freedom to LGBTQ rights, and I thank you for fighting by my side.

Together, I know we can show Ted Cruz that his brand of divisive extremism is not what Texans want or need. Thanks again for being on my team.

Colin

Give now to help us fight voter suppression in Texas and fire Ted Cruz once and for all. Experts agree we can win this battleground race, but because Texas has some of the most extreme voting laws in the country, it's going to be that much tougher. That's why we're personally asking YOU to help make sure Colin has the resources he needs to ensure Texans can exercise their right to vote →
