Wondering why the prices of chicken, pork, and turkey meat have been high?
Collusion.
It turns out that a company called Agri Stats, Inc. has been sharing
anticompetitive information with meat processors. This sensitive data was
then used by the processor companies to coordinate increased prices and
reduced output.
This kind of anticompetitive behavior directly harms consumers in
California and across the country, which is why Rob joined the U.S.
Department of Justice in a lawsuit against Agri Stats.
Agriculture markets are a lifeblood of the California economy, and the
cost of putting dinner on the table matters to every family in this state.
In a fair economy, companies would compete with each other, not collude to
increase their profits at the expense of consumers.
This lawsuit is another in a long list of actions Rob has taken to protect
California consumers from getting ripped off by corporations, and it won’t
be the last.
