When I ran for Congress, I promised I wouldn't take a dime from corporate PACs.
A big reason I made that pledge was because our last representative, Republican David Valadao, was so clearly in the pockets of big insurance companies and corporate PACs. With Valadao at the helm, working families and people struggling with prolonged illness in our district came dead last in Washington.
Those days are behind us, and I'm proud that one of my first acts in Congress was cosponsoring the For the People Act -- a sweeping reform bill to strengthen our democracy and root out special interest money in our politics.

Here's some of what we need to do:
⇒ Overturn the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling
⇒ Require super PACs and dark money groups to disclose their donors
⇒ Increase oversight for campaign finance violations
These straightforward reforms will limit special interest influence and bring more people power into our democracy -- plain and simple. The truth is, everything we want to get done, whether it's achieving universal health coverage or tackling climate change, all hinge on passing this bill.
