** SCOTUS accepts 43 cases this term; 20 scheduled for argument so far

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) had accepted 43 cases for its2023 term ([link removed] as of Nov. 10. The Court scheduled 20 of those cases for argument and dismissed one.
In its2022 term ([link removed] , SCOTUS agreed to consider 60 cases. One case was dismissed. From 2016 to 2022, SCOTUS agreed to consider an average of 69 cases.

** Seven local jurisdictions voted on ranked-choice voting measures in 2023

In 2023, seven local jurisdictions in five states decided local ballot measures to adopt or repeal ranked-choice voting—the second highest number to do so since 1965.
Six of the seven measures on the ballot this year were proposals to adopt ranked-choice voting. One, in Minnetonka, Minnesota, was a proposal to repeal it. Voters approved all six measures to adopt RCV, and defeated the measure to repeal it.
Between 1965 and 2023, there were 74 local measures on ranked-choice voting in 18 states.

** Wisconsin could become eighth state to pass constitutional prohibition on noncitizen voting

On Nov. 9, the Wisconsin Legislature put ([link removed] a constitutional amendment ([link removed] on the November 2024 ballot that would specify that only U.S. citizens can vote in federal, state, or local elections.
If voters approve the amendment, Wisconsin would join seven other states—Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, North Dakota, and Ohio—that have approved amendments prohibiting noncitizen voting.
