Dear Neighbors,
I hope this message finds you well as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving with our friends and family. Earlier this week, I joined with a majority of my colleagues from both parties to avert a government shutdown and prevent the threat of cuts to Medicare and Social Security. I am committed to ensuring our government stays open and continues to serve the American people.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact my office by calling (847) 413-1959, emailing me at [email protected], or sending a message through my website at https://krishnamoorthi.house.gov/contact/email. Congressman Krishnamoorthi speaks at Conant High School in Hoffman Estates about the importance of Veterans Day and supporting all those who have served our nation in uniform.

On Saturday, our country thanked our veterans for their bravery and commitment to our nation as we celebrated Veterans Day. I was honored to participate in several different Veterans Day events across our district, including addressing students, families, and veterans at Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, as well as speaking at a dedication service of a new monument at Veterans Circle in Addison. It was a privilege to meet with so many veterans, hear their stories, and thank them for defending our democracy. President Abraham Lincoln once said, “Any nation that does not honor its heroes will not long endure.” I am happy to say that the United States is now approaching its 250th birthday, in part, because we honor our heroes and look out for them in our communities.
Last week, I joined with my colleagues Congressmen Tim Walberg, Josh Gottheimer, and Brett Guthrie in introducing the bipartisan POW Priority Care Act, legislation which would reform aspects of the health care system at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to ensure those Americans who were prisoners of war (POWs) get the care they deserve. Under the current system, POWs are eligible for health care and services in Priority Group 3. This legislation would elevate former POWs to Priority Group 1 to receive treatment sooner. It is my belief that ensuring our former POWs have early access to the health care and services they deserve is the least we can do as a country, and I hope to see this bipartisan bill move forward in the House soon.

Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi speaks to Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies on America’s competition with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
This week, I joined the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) for a moderated Q&A with Dean James B. Steinberg. During my address, I presented a vision for America’s strategic competition with the CCP from my vantage point as Ranking Member of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the C.C.P. I was happy to see President Joe Biden sit down with General Secretary Xi Jinping on Wednesday to discuss the future of relations between our two countries. As I said at SAIS this week, America’s competition with the CCP is not a game - it’s a test of which set of values will guide the global economy and geopolitical complexities in the coming decades. Beyond abstractions, that competition will directly impact the safety, wellbeing, and prosperity of Americans and billions of people across the world. I am confident that our commitment to democracy, open societies, and the free market will ensure our ultimate success along with that of our allies and partners across the world.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi celebrates with families at the dedication of homes for three Habitat for Humanity partner families.
Last weekend, I was happy to join DuPage Habitat for Humanity to help dedicate homes for three Habitat partner families in Hanover Park. During my time in Congress, I have advocated for the importance of keeping housing and other costs of living affordable in our region, our state, and our country. Organizations like Habitat for Humanity play a vital role in our community, and I thank them and all the volunteers who made these new homes possible for our neighbors in Hanover Park.
