John,

North Atlantic right whales are some of the world’s most endangered whales. Hunting pushed them to near-extinction in the 1700s — and today right whales and other marine animals are threatened by ship strikes and entanglement in fishing gear.

That’s why it's time for Costco to do better. [link removed]

Despite having sustainability commitments, Costco continues to sell American lobster caught in fisheries that have a “red rating” from Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch or lack a sustainability certification from the Marine Stewardship Council.

Millions of traps, including vertical fishing lines, are set each year to catch American lobster. Deployed throughout critical whale habitat, these fishing lines connect traps to the ocean’s surface and create difficult, dangerous mazes for right whales and other wildlife to navigate.

Tell Costco to put the whales first by halting purchases of American lobster from fisheries posing risk to marine species. [link removed]
