With Thanksgiving coming up, we wanted to highlight the importance of reducing food waste.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) put out a new report last month on food waste, and it showed that one of the largest sources of methane emissions in the United States is from food thrown in landfills.
Reducing food waste isn’t just a best practice, it’s good for fighting greenhouse gas emissions, too. This Thanksgiving, can you sign on and pledge to minimize food waste where you can? [[link removed]]

The report released by the EPA also found that a third of food produced never gets eaten. That’s a huge waste on our climate’s resources and a major contributor to the harmful greenhouse gasses that cause climate change.
Luckily, SEEC Members are working to find solutions that will help reduce food waste and therefore methane emissions, too. Congresswoman Julia Brownley has introduced the Zero Food Waste Act in an effort to help the country cut down on wasted food. This would help us cut down on greenhouse gas emissions and be more efficient in food production.
