Hey John,
Okay, so you've heard we won our #FreeThePill campaign, and people will soon be able to get Opill - a daily birth control pill - right off the shelf (or online) just like condoms, Plan B, or Tylenol - no need to visit a doctor for a prescription first!
But how much will Opill cost? Didn't we already fight for daily birth control pills to be free?
-
The Good News: Thanks to guidance issued by the Affordable Care Act, most private health insurance plans must cover all FDA-approved methods of contraception. And we believe there is a way to apply that law to over-the-counter birth control pills too.
-
The Problem: Health insurance companies usually require a prescription to cover preventive products like birth control. So while folks can still get birth control at no cost using the old prescription method, we're worried insurance companies won't cover Opill. We fought so hard to bring this birth control pill over-the-counter - we need to make sure people can afford it too.
-
The Solution: The Biden Administration has recently requested public comments on that topic exactly! They want to know if people like you would be impacted by insurance coverage of Opill. We need to overwhelm them with comments so they know young people need insurance to cover all birth control - prescription and over-the-counter!
Time is of the essence, so sign up here to learn how to submit an effective comment before the deadline. We'll help you figure out the details!
