Dear Neighbors,
Happy autumn to all! I hope you were able to enjoy all that the bright beautiful Minnesota fall offers. As we head into another busy holiday season, big things are happening in Minnesota and in our community.??
Designs are in for Minnesota?s new flag and emblem, and there are a lot of loons.??
The commission received 2, 123 flag submissions and 398 seal designs. You can view all of the submissions here and leave comments on your favorites. Somewhere among the thousands are our new Minnesota flag and seal! I?m excited to see the winners. ?
Next, the redesign commission will finalize their pick. The new emblems will become official on Minnesota Statehood Day on May 11.?

Last week, I hosted the Capital Investment committee at the?Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley?as part of their 2023 bonding tour. The committee is touring facilities seeking investment and stopped by our Humane Society as part of a proposal for funding from AHS in Saint Paul.?
While I was there, I met some adorable and loving animals looking for forever homes, including Gallop! You can view Gallop and all of the other critters they have at the?Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley?here.

During the past session, I passed HF 1231, which creates a grant program to maintain the Public Land Survey System (PLSS). There are thousands of survey markers around the state that have not been properly maintained, which can lead to land disputes and high costs for private property owners who need land surveyed. Thank you to State and Local Government Finance and Policy Chair State Representative Ginny Klevorn for including funding for this important program in your budget bill.??
Last month, I was able to travel to Cook, Minnesota, and spend several hours with staff from the St. Louis County Surveyor?s office to learn how this important work will be conducted. I am extremely impressed by their professionalism and knowledge. Thank you for letting me tag along!?
As of October 1st, all Minnesota residents are eligible to earn a Driver?s License, regardless of immigration or citizenship status. This is a major move towards safer roads, as it will allow us to decrease the number of unlicensed, uninsured drivers on our roads and increase the amount of title and taxpaying Minnesotans driving on our streets and highways.?
I appreciated the opportunity to join my colleagues from the Minnesota legislature on a visit to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. I am honored to hear about the important initiatives they are developing and implementing to enhance the quality of care and services they are providing to our community members.??
To stay up to date with our important work at the State Capitol, you can see the Minnesota House of Public Information Services? nonpartisan recaps of high-profile bills, committee hearings, and floor sessions with their Session Daily publication.?
You can also stay up-to-date with the latest by following my Facebook page.?
