Here’s the bad news: We’re facing another stopgap government showdown at the end of January, nearly half of the Republican caucus voted against this effort, and surely they will try again.

John James owned that ‘Americans want Congress to pull their heads out of their backside’ but since then it’s been all posturing. Even his colleagues have accepted that with this Republican chaos, it’s been the least productive Congress ever.
As a financial planner, I do a lot of what Congress is supposed to on a daily basis: Make difficult budgetary projections to help thousands of working Michiganders buy homes, grow their small businesses, save for college, and plan for the future.
I see how decisions in Washington impact our lives every day. I see how John James’ empty leadership and symbolic gestures might make headlines, but they don’t make a functioning economy. And our community has had to pay the price.
