John,
The American healthcare system is broken. Our citizens spend an average of nearly $13,000 annually [[link removed](U.S.%20dollars,%20PPP%20adjusted)] on healthcare, more than twice what people in other wealthy countries pay. Yet more than one-third of Americans have said they can’t afford their prescriptions, and nearly forty percent skipped or delayed important medical care [[link removed]] due to cost.
The United States is one of the few advanced democracies in the world that fails to guarantee healthcare to its citizens. In one of the world’s wealthiest countries, no one should go without healthcare because they can’t afford it.
The solution is clear: We need universal healthcare.
I’ve introduced the State-Based Universal Health Care Act, landmark legislation that would give states the power and resources to create comprehensive health care for their residents, regardless of income or employment status. By establishing statewide single-payer healthcare, states can put the health and well-being of their people above the will of profit-driven private insurance companies.
Americans should have access to quality, affordable healthcare as a right, not a privilege. As we continue to work on a federal solution, states should have the freedom to lead the way in this movement.
Tell Congress: Pass the State-Based Universal Health Care Act. [[link removed]]
