Gun owners can also advocate for gun safety legislation.

John, I was moved by this recent op-ed in the AJC. In the piece, a gun owner describes his journey to becoming an activist in the fight for common-sense gun safety legislation.

After the 2022 Uvalde mass shooting, Andrew Ziffer asked himself what he could do to prevent the needless slaughter of children across the country. He got involved with the advocacy group GIFFORDS and has fought to strengthen Georgia’s policies around gun ownership, pushing for reforms such as repealing the “Stand Your Ground” law.

Our paths may have been different, but Andrew Ziffer and I share plenty in common. We’re both parents and concerned citizens who believe that we can do better as a nation. Children deserve to feel protected in schools, and we adults have a responsibility to keep our communities safe from gun violence.

If you agree, sign my letter below calling on more gun owners to join the fight for common-sense legislation to protect our neighborhoods.

As Ziffer said in the op-ed, “Children should not have to die because of lawmakers’ cowardice to take action.” Keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people shouldn’t be a partisan issue.

If more and more people continue to speak out on this critical issue, we can continue putting pressure on GOP politicians to do the right thing. I won’t stop beating the drum in Congress, but I’m counting on my grassroots supporters to raise their voices as well.
