Old and new antisemites are shedding off their masks November 2023 NEWSLETTER Who We Are Our Mission Anti-Israel March in D.C. on November 4, 2023. (Credit: ADL) Following the October 7th Hamas massacre in which more than 1,200 Israelis were murdered and 6,900 wounded, the global Jewish community has endured an unprecedented rise in antisemitic attacks. Perhaps most worrisome, these attacks are not only coming from terrorist groups like Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah. Regular civilians, activists, and college students continue to rally, protest, and cheer for the elimination of Israel and its Jewish population. It’s particularly chilling to witness college students at America’s preeminent academic institutions chant slogans celebrating exterminating Jews and eradicating the Jewish state. This blatant antisemitism under the guise of 'human rights' and 'liberation' is horrifying for all of us in the United States. Regrettably, university administrators have hardly addressed the flagrant antisemitism on their campuses. Worse still, this prejudice is often promoted by professors in classrooms, and by DEI staffers & administrators on campus and online. This indoctrination, systematically orchestrated by our adversaries, has persisted for years. Today, in plain sight, we see the results of this ideology. We must recognize that opposition to Israel's right to exist is not solely antisemitic; it also embraces ideology opposed to the very principles upheld by America. The Islamo-leftist alliance comprised of terrorist groups and their radical left supporters aim not just to undermine Israel but also to effectively challenge and undercut foundational American values—such as religious freedom, the freedom of expression, and freedom of speech—values that are integral to the fabric of our democracy. In our article, Why I Think the Golden Age for Jews in America is Coming to its End, published in 2022, we exposed the grave danger facing American Jewry. Since the start of this century, there was a rise and acceptance of a new form of antisemitism; Jew-hatred disguised as solely oppositional to Israel and promoted by the Islamo-leftist alliance. Sadly, today, the masks have come off. The prevailing sentiment on campuses has shifted. Students and faculty no longer merely criticize Israel, they disseminate clear and blatant Jew-hatred. Calling for the complete annihilation of the Jewish state and violence against all Jews is now the norm. And it’s appeased and accepted by too many academic leaders. In an earlier article, from 2019, Pro-Palestinian Student Group Promotes Antisemitism at US College Conference we discussed how the lessons of the Holocaust have been forgotten. And how universities lend their legitimacy and use their platforms to normalize this new form of antisemitism. Sadly, the situation on campuses has only worsened. But all is not lost. In the wake of October 7th, Jewish leaders, funders, employers, and academics have finally awakened to the danger of new antisemitism. They are bravely standing against this vile hatred. We must join and support them to ensure "Never Again" is not just an empty slogan, but a call for action. If you're interested in partnering with us to fight antisemitism, support the State of Israel, and protect American democracy, we would love to hear from you. Lastly, we invite you to learn more about the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), a Washington-based nonprofit. MEMRI actively monitors, translates, analyzes, and exposes antisemitic statements by Hamas officials, the Iranian government, and other regional actors in the press. "The decline in the favorability of mainstream American views toward Israel has coincided with a rise in antisemitic violence, particularly in large metropolises, promoted by Islamo-Leftist groups. In New York City, more than half of hate crimes in 2019 targeted Jews. During the last major conflict between Israel and the Palestinians in May 2021, terror groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad launched more than 4,000 rockets and mortars at Israeli civilians. At the same time, we witnessed stunning and unprecedented scenes in New York, Los Angeles, and other American cities of Jews being assaulted by mobs of anti-Israel activists. This surge of anti-Jewish hate also included harassment, vandalism and online abuse." "All people opposed to antisemitism must pull our communal and financial support from institutions hosting the American mainstreaming of modern antisemitism. We must apply pressure from outside – mobilizing communities of shared values – and from within (drawing on students, faculty, staff, and alumni) to discourage this evil. The time is now to band together to put an end to the BDS movement." MEMRI also ensures that American, Israeli, and Western nations can fully understand the situation as it continues to unfold. In the four weeks since October 7th, MEMRI has published over 350 translated reports and videos, garnering hundreds of millions of online views, in addition to being used by CNN, Fox News, the NY Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, NBC News, and countless other outlets. MEMRI’s content assists the Israeli government and IDF efforts by providing intel for their officials’ press conferences. It’s also impacted Western government officials. In public arguments against a ceasefire, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby, and UK Foreign Minister James Cleverly have all cited MEMRI’s work. MEMRI is the only organization that translates Arabic and Farsi from anti-American and anti-Israeli terrorist groups. They’ve translated statements from Hamas, Hizbullah, Iranian regional Shi’ite groups, and other terrorist groups. Thanks to MEMRI’s work, numerous Hamas-supporting imams throughout the U.S. have been publicly exposed since October 7. Please consider supporting MEMRI’s ongoing work during this conflict, and beyond. MFF is proud to support MEMRI Let's Connect!
