Congress Should Fund Real Border Security, Not a Worldwide Welfare State
- Conservatives must come together before the next budget battle and united to stop the bleeding at our border. Otherwise, the situation at our southern border will only get worse.
- In October alone, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reports that 240,988 foreigners were “encountered” attempting to enter the U.S. from Mexico, the highest total for that month in our history.
- Among them were 13 people on the FBI terror watchlist. Not among them, of course, were the tens of thousands of “gotaways” who sneaked into our country without being caught and could present all kinds of threats to American families.
- The Biden administration’s determination to use every means at its disposal to let more people cross our southern border illegally means that unless Congress steps up, the situation will only get worse.
- As Republicans gear up for another budget fight after the holidays, they should unite behind a platform that incorporates real border security as a condition of approving any supplemental spending.
- That means investing in proven solutions that reduce economically motivated mass migration, such as a border wall system, reinstating safe third-country requirements, ending “catch and release,” and reforming the asylum system to prevent fraud.

Even the Census Bureau Is Trying to Promote Radical Gender Ideology
- The Census Bureau is asking Congress for $10 million to figure out how best to promote the fiction that sex is assigned at birth, rather than the scientific fact that it is present at conception.
- It is part of a new set of questions on sexual orientation and gender identity that the bureau wants to ask residents even as young as 15.
- This expansion beyond race and ethnicity represents a new foray into sexual identity — one more step in the bureau’s decades long degeneration into an agency completely captured by the identity-mongering industry, and which produces the supposedly “victim” categories that the industry requires.
- The Left is constantly wrapping itself on the mantle of being the party of science, but nothing gives the lie to such a claim more than gender theory.
- A new administration will have to clean house in the bureau at least as much as in other agencies. A good starting point is to rid the surveys of faux racial and ethnic categories and not add new ones, especially those that include sex. Instead, let’s ask things with a direct impact on success and failure, such as family formation.

US Credit Gets Downgraded as Signs of Default Become Clearer
- The world is waking up to a stark reality that could affect tens of millions of Americans: The federal government may be unable to pay its bills sooner rather than later.
- The financial situation is deteriorating so rapidly that the outlook on U.S. debt was downgraded a few days ago. That change was long overdue and highlights just how dangerous the situation is becoming for taxpayers and bondholders alike – including anyone with retirement funds.
- Just last month, the Treasury borrowed over $500 billion to finance the bloated federal budget. The deficit for the current fiscal year is on track to exceed $3 trillion and roughly double the deficit from the previous fiscal year. The debt is over $33.7 trillion, and the cost to service that debt is exploding.
- The Biden administration and its big-spender allies in Congress seem intent on spending the country into the ground, blowing through cash at rates that would make drunken sailors blush.
- To be clear, the federal government is not going to run out of cash tomorrow, and Treasury bonds won’t become worthless overnight. However, that is the endgame if the U.S. continues on its current path. Investors should plan accordingly, and taxpayers should make their voices heard in Washington.
