UNITED E-News November 2023 - Question Propaganda, Challenge Hate!

Dear UNITED Friends,

November is another of our campaigning months, traditionally devoted to our campaign for the 9th of November, International Day Against Fascism and Anti-semitism, the commemoration of the Kristallnacht - the “Night of Broken Glass”, which happened 85th years ago and that was a major turning point in the history of the Holocaust.

When commemorating this day though, even in its 85th anniversary, we must remember and we must be able to see that it was the culmination of a long-term process, which constantly fueled and normalised hate through propaganda and manipulation. It didn’t happen in a void.

This is also one of the reasons this campaign is universal and we celebrate it every year: the root causes and fueling factors behind fascism and hate are in fact very much present to this day and they become even worse and more excruciating in times of war and anguish, like those we are experiencing right now.

9th of november campaign question propaganda challenge hate

In such conditions the responsibilities of those actors who benefit from the spread of hate and propaganda is even greater and this urged use to conduct this year's campaign under the motto QUESTION PROPAGANDA, CHALLENGE HATE, which we started by announcing our departure from X, formerly known as Twitter. You can read our full statement here

The newest leaflet dedicated to the International Day Against Fascism and Antisemitism

On the occasion of this year's campaign we also took the chance to announce the production of a new leaflet dedicated to summarise our mission and vision surrounding the commemoration of 9th of November: Standing Strong Against the Shadows of the Past, with the hope that this flyer will be part of many events, campaigns and initiatives, inspiring people to take action, to step out from the shadows of indifference, to #stayunited and say no to all forms of fascism.

You can download it here and feel free to get in touch with us to get inspiration for your future action.

III Meeting of UNITED Experts & Delegates Team

As we announced in the last Newsletter, we held online our III Meeting of the Experts & Delegates team and we want to take the chance to share this news not only to acknowledge the happiness of being able to meet, talk and discuss together the future of UNITED #advocacy work, but most and foremost to stress the importance of such efforts in times of despair, like those we are living today. We would like to remind that it’s always possible to become part of this team through this link or get in touch with our Experts & Delegates Team by dropping an email at our lovely Eunice [email protected].
We really believe that in this way it's possible to feel the power and the resilience of a network made by hundreds of organisations, which you could represent in important and different fora. We need as many voices as possible. We cannot allow the horrific sounds of bombs and violence to overcome the voices of the people and their #rights and for this we need to be and #stayunited.

For people who are working with refugees, it's still possible to contribute to the questionnaire of the amazing REFUGIN project, which we have talked about many times and that aims at strengthening the role of key civil society professionals on the medium-to-long-term integration of young refugees. You can find the link to the questionnaire here and get in touch with us to know more about the project.
