Hello John! I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Jam, I love hip-hop music and my cat Toffee, and I will be attending law school soon. For the past month, I have been volunteering with Equality Virginia to bring more volunteers (like you!) into the movement to make Virginia the first state in the South to have statewide nondiscrimination protections for LGBT people in housing, employment, and public spaces. Right now, there's one big opportunity to make sure that happens during the upcoming General Assembly session: Make sure pro-LGBT candidates win in this year's state legislative elections, which are coming up in just 14 weeks! That's why starting on August 14th, Equality Virginia will be hosting remote phonebanking nights from 6:00pm to 9:00 pm. Sign up here to learn more and RSVP to our first phonebank. Remote phonebanking means that you can call voters in key districts right from your couch to let them know the importance of nondiscrimination protections. You don't need to have experience with phonebanking, just a phone and a laptop or tablet. Equality Virginia staff will do a video conference training with all volunteers, and they do a great job of making sure everyone is comfortable and ready for calls. This is a real opportunity for you to make a difference in our Commonwealth, and ensure all LGBT people are protected from discrimination here. With just 14 weeks until state elections, it is so important that we reach as many voters as possible. Sign up here and join me to make Virginia a safer place for everyone to live, work, and play. -Jam Jamison | |
