Hi John
With giving season upon us, I find myself reflecting on this past year. I saw so many people come to Ely, either to canoe, camp, or explore Northern Minnesota. This reminds me of when I first came to Ely and why I’m dedicated to saving the Boundary Waters - to make sure our future generations can continue to enjoy this special place. From now until midnight, you have a rare opportunity to double your impact and help protect the Boundary Waters [[link removed]] .
Many of you know my story by now — my wife Nancy and I have lived in Ely since 1979, and we founded a little wilderness shop on main street. We took our first trip to the Boundary Waters and soon made the easy decision to spend the rest of our lives here.
Right now, my family and many other business owners are worried about the immense threat posed by proposed sulfide-ore copper mining next to the Boundary Waters . This type of mining is extremely toxic and would devastate the Wilderness our businesses rely on.
Some places are just too important -- we can’t allow the most toxic industry in the United States next to the most-visited Wilderness.
