John, free speech on college campuses is in jeopardy.
Our friends at Young America’s Foundation are hosting conservative commentator Dr. James Lindsay at Penn State University (PSU) this week – and the University administration did its best to make this event as inconvenient, unattendable, and difficult as possible.
The PSU admin tried to shove the YAF event to the outskirts of campus, sending the loud, clear message that conservative viewpoints aren’t welcome.
Let me explain.
Throughout the year PSU hosts a variety of speaking engagements and usually they are located close to the center of campus, making it easy for all to attend.
However, when the campus chapter of YAF tried to host a conservative speaker, they were relegated to a venue far away from the center of campus even though MULTIPLE closer venues that had been used by others including the College Democrats were open and available.
That’s why the Center for American Liberty stepped in and sent a demand letter to PSU, on behalf of YAF and its students at PSU, demanding the university relocate the event to a central location, easily accessible and of equal quality to what it would have offered a leftist group on campus.
And I’m glad to tell you we won.
In response to our demand letter threatening imminent litigation, the university moved Dr. Lindsay’s lecture to a venue specifically requested by our friends at YAF.
Thanks to your support, the Center for American Liberty is quickly becoming the go-to group for campus free speech litigation.
When students are brave enough to fight for what they believe—when surrounded by Marxists, communists and socialists—they don’t just deserve our support; they need it.
Because the socialists aren’t just their classmates…
…they’re professors, administrators, and board members.
And the radical Left would love nothing more than to silence and subdue dissenting speech on campus.
It’s more important than ever that students have access to the truth.
We know they aren’t getting it in their classrooms, and they likely never have.
These speaking engagements are crucial to reaching the next generation, and undoing years-long indoctrination campaigns.
That is why we are so grateful that our friends at YAF host campus lectures around the country exposing truth to students…
…and that is why we are so thankful for the opportunity to support that effort by stepping in and providing litigation support when needed.
