Remember Joe Rogan, John? He gave us a shout-out earlier this year because of our mission to hold right-wing disinformation engines like him accountable:
[link removed] [[link removed]]Well, Rogan’s been busy. Rogan’s podcast recently lost its long-held number one spot among Spotify’s playlist to The Daily Show’s former host Trevor Noah. This comes as Rogan’s contract with Spotify is about to be up for renewal and amid new pressure on Spotify to cut ties with the right-wing flamethrower.
Before we go further, you should know that Courier and our affiliated newsrooms in nine battleground states are working around the clock to hold bad actors like Rogan accountable, debunk their false claims, and deliver fact-based reporting to the communities that need it most. Can you pitch in $5 now to support our work? [[link removed]]
So what has Rogan been up to in these last few months? The answer probably won’t surprise you:
- Claimed he gave himself "arsenic poisoning" by eating too many sardines.
- When Elon Musk — an engine of misinformation himself appeared on Rogan's show recently — he claimed he bought Twitter to save it from so-called "left-wing thinking."
- Hosted the likes of RFK Jr., who has continued to push dangerous and debunked lies about vaccines and other issues.
The scariest part is just how influential Rogan has become in recent years.
While his show may no longer occupy Spotify's top podcast spot, Rogan has amassed an audience in the millions.
Unfortunately, rather than taking a firm stand against Rogan's BS, it's likely that Spotify will continue to provide a lucrative platform for this type of profit-driven misinformation that will benefit both the company and Rogan himself.
That's why Courier Newsroom exists, John . Our newsrooms across nine battleground states operate in "news deserts" that lack other reliable sources of local reporting, so our journalists are dedicated to calling misinformation out for what it is and holding those who spread it accountable.
But it takes a lot of resources to support our newsrooms, and we're counting on supporters like you to help us keep it up. So if you can, please pitch in $5 or any amount today to help us continue fighting back against misinformation. [[link removed]]
